About Us

The Hairdressing College has been owner operated in Palmerston North since 1953. Most current hairdressers in the Manawatu region know the business well and started their training here.

We have now redirected the teaching & learning practises to a more Learner focused environment. Our business model is "Passion (Fashion) & Purpose (Relevance) before skill (Basic Skill)" this means we teach fashion work in blow waving, setting & Long Hair Ups well before the basic uniform layer sets & blow waves. This primarily focuses on capturing the students enthusiasum, excitement and keeps them focused on attendance & application to learning. This year we have factored into the years diary "in house competitions" which we considered compulsary fun. All student particiated & had enormous fun & excitement is preparing & prastising their mannequins to compete. All place getters won a place to compete in the local Manawatu Hairdressing Competitions in July.

We have had three very successful years competing in Regional, National & International Hairdressing Competitions. Top Awards include:

2013 - Master Oceanic Winner & Styling Newcomer of the Year + 1st Oceanic Conversion 2nd Oceanic The Cut (Tasmania, Australia)
2014 - Master Oceanic Winner & Styling Top Styling Apprentice
2015 - Grand Master Champion Overall Oceanic (Australisian)

We also exposed all the students to a photographic competitions entering 29 photos in two competitions. Our successes as follows:

2013 - Novice Champion + 2 photos Highly Commended
2014 - Manawatu Champion & Novice Champion + 2 photos highly Commended
2015 - Winner of Patrick Cameron Photo challenge, Novice Champion + 2 photos highly commended & winner HITO Facebook People's Choice

So we expose our students to fashion styling, hairdressing competitions, fashion photo shoots and makeup artistry. All this extra learning opens the eyes of the student to all forms of fashion that hairdressing can offer.

I have an excellent team of Tutors offering excellent skills and knowledge to students in Palmerston North and our Levin site. They are all passionate people and very motivated to ensuring students get the most of their training and help nurture all students even when times get tough and it all seems ‘too hard’.

Working in our positive environment is very rewarding for students and us alike. Come and enjoy the ride with us.
